Comprehensive Assessment

The Comprehensive Assessment is a very thorough examination of your thinking skills and brain's functioning. The four- to five-hour paper-and-pencil evaluation details an individual's strengths and weaknesses in all cognitive domains. Think of it as being back in school for a day, without the homework. All you need to bring to your appointment is a good attitude and willingness to put in your best effort on all the tasks.

Due to the detailed nature of the Comprehensive Assessment, smaller changes can be better appreciated over time than the Rapid Screen or Brief Assessment. Therefore, the Comprehensive Assessment is generally recommended to those who are in the earlier stages of noticing changes to their thinking skills or have a family history of dementia, and for those who wish to establish an accurate baseline.

Individuals who may benefit from a Comprehensive Assessment include those with the following:

  • Dementia
  • Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) or mild Traumatic Brain Injury (mTBI)
  • Concussion
  • Stroke
  • Epilepsy
  • Tumor
  • Chronic Disease
  • Psychiatric or Psychological Disorder
  • Learning Disorder
  • Pre- and Post-Surgical Assessment and Monitoring

Following the evaluation and interpretation of the results, Dr. Wittenberg will meet with the individual and their family to discuss the outcome. Recommendations for improvement to day-to-day functioning will be detailed based on test performance taking into account specific cognitive strengths. Treatment planning will also be discussed with the family. Dr. Wittenberg can liase with the individual's medical team when requested.
